Juzo Ogami ( (おお) (がみ) (ジュウ) (ゾウ) Ōgami Jūzō) is the main character in Kill Blue series.

He's a highly skilled assassin who has made a profession out of taking lives, having started at a young age and continuing to do so into adulthood.

Etymology[]

  • The name 大狼十三, which can be romanized as "Ōgami Jūzō," is a Japanese name with deep etymological roots.
    • The surname "Ōgami" (大狼) is a combination of the kanji characters "大" meaning "big" or "great," and "狼" meaning "wolf." It is a relatively uncommon surname in Japan, but it can be found in various regions throughout the country.
    • The given name "Jūzō" (十三) is a combination of the characters "十" meaning "ten" and "三" meaning "three", both characters "十三" form "thirteen", likely a reference to Ogami's current age. "Juzo" is a common male given name in Japan and is usually written in kanji characters rather than hiragana or katakana.

Appearance[]

Older Version[]

Despite being 39 years old, Juzo possesses a well-built physique that affords him the ability to combat adversaries effectively in his line of work. His neatly trimmed, gray hair is parted on the left side, and his countenance often appears fatigued, possibly due to his minimal smiling, extensive workload, or smoking habit. When heading to work, he dons a three-piece black suit.

Younger Version[]

Juzo Ogami - Full Body

Juzo Ogami (Younger Version) Full Body Appearance

After undergoing a transformation into his 13-year-old self, Juzo now possesses the physique typical of teenage boys his teenager age. To seamlessly blend into the environment of a middle school, he has adopted an appearance that includes glasses. This transformation is essential for him to carry out a mission assigned by the Boss of Z.O.O., which is connected to the Boss' daughter.

Juzo's hair, longer than in his adult form, is adorned with fringes that nearly obscure his eyes. Similarly to his adult form, half of his hair is white, with the remaining half being black, and he habitually parts his neck-length hair to the right. In his role as a middle school student, he dons the school's standard white uniform and carries a randoseru, a sturdy leather or leather-like synthetic backpack commonly used by schoolchildren in Japan.

Personality[]

Initially known as a legendary hitman with a fearsome reputation, he exhibits various facets of his personality as the story progresses. He typically exhibits a melancholic temperament, which he developed throughout his life from a young age. Infrequently does he smile, and he harbors a distaste for children, a factor that may have contributed to his ex-wife and daughter leaving him. He has expressed that he finds it more natural to converse with individuals whom he has been hired to assassinate than his own family, whom he derogatorily refers to as "irredeemable."[8]

He demonstrates professionalism and lethal skill in his work, maintaining a composed demeanor and completing missions with precision. Despite his deadly profession, he shares a playful and friendly dynamic with his subordinate, Kotatsu Nekota, engaging in light-hearted banter and extending their relationship beyond work-related matters.

Juzo's personality also reveals a complex emotional landscape, reflecting on past regrets and a sense of existential dissatisfaction. His dedication to learning as he assumes the role of a middle school student highlights his adaptability and open-minded nature. Furthermore, his protective and compassionate side becomes evident when he always intervenes to protect his classmates or anyone in the same age as his daughter.

Upon assuming the guise of a student, Juzo initially found himself inundated with information and developed a keen interest in the new academic environment. However, the overwhelming nature of this novelty frequently elicited emotional outbursts, manifesting as tears or stress due to his excitement.[9] While Juzo initially sought to be transparent in his interactions with his classmates, his introductory message was received as peculiar and garnered him a reputation as an odd individual, causing some classmates to ridicule him.[10]

Plot[]

Background[]

As a child, Juzo was abducted by a syndicate and subsequently trained to become an assassin. He did not receive much formal education and did not progress beyond elementary school. He was once married to Eri and they had a child, but his life as a hitman caused him to become emotionally lost and directionless, ultimately leading to his abandonment by his family.

Despite his reputation as a legendary hitman who would kill anyone for the right price and feared by many, Juzo still has his shortcomings. At some point during his time as a hitman, he trained Kakeru Inukai in Z.O.O.. He becomes completely overwhelmed by his new life as a high school student, following his transformation into his 13-year-old self. Having spent his entire life as an assassin, he never thought about anything else, leading to him breaking down in tears when presented with the overwhelming amount of new knowledge during class.

However, their relationship also contains a friendly and playful dynamic, with Juzo engaging in light-hearted banter with Kotatsu. They often share meals and engage in conversations beyond their work-related interactions.

  • In the first chapter, there was a mistake where Juzo was shown using a Colt Government (M1911) gun instead of the SIG P210, likely due to a reference material mismatch.[4]
